Blog - Head Out Not Home: Alden, Patterson and Dashwood

This past 18 months has been a real challenge for musicians and performers. Before the pandemic hit we had a full year of concerts booked throughout the UK and Europe, and like many other artists we saw those all fall away within a matter of weeks. This came as a big shock and was initially very hard to come to terms with; losing our work and our sense of identity. We had just released our third album ‘Waterbound’ so felt lucky we managed to fit in most of our Spring tour.

We began looking into other avenues for work and creativity. Noel started full time employment outside the music industry, while Christina and Alex wanted to remain full time musicians so took to playing online concerts, teaching and recording their debut duo album. It was amazing to see the support and camaraderie from fans and musicians wanting to help each other through such a difficult time and it’s something we will be forever grateful for.

Christina and Alex’s debut duo album

We wanted to channel our energy into something positive and so decided to record our debut duo album. We used our new-found time and space to be creative; to write, compose and develop new music. ‘Hunter’ was recorded during the lockdowns of 2020/21 at home in the ‘Folk Cellar’ on King Street, Norwich. Our house is in the middle of the city centre but the normally busy streets were quiet and so we were able to record everything at home. We have been completely overwhelmed with the support for ‘Hunter’ with stunning reviews and lots of national airplay including... BBC Radio 2, BBC 6 Music, BBC Scotland, BBC Wales, BBC Ulster and RTÉ Radio 1

'A bright, lively collection of songs that plays so sweetly it evokes the sensation of a summer folk festival' - The Guardian

★★★★★ - The Morning Star ★★★★ 'Among the roots-world cognoscenti' - RnR Magazine ‘Beautifully realised collection of songs and tunes... Perfectly matched harmonies...at times it’s hard to tell them apart, you could be listening to a single voice’ - Folk Radio Uk 'This uniformly excellent album... With Hunter, the duo are poised for even greater recognition and achievements' - At The Barrier

‘It really is an exceptional body of work' 10/10 - Outline Magazine

'The sensitivity of Alex’s fiddle playing and the delicacy of his harmonies over Christina’s assured lead is probably what separates this duo from the crowd...Hunter is a superb album' - Northern Sky Reviews

Future plans

We are all very excited to get out playing concerts again after such a long time. We have played Head Out Not Home for several years now and it is always lovely to perform in your home city. We are looking ahead to a busy year of concerts with the three of us playing festivals and a tour booked for November. We will also be heading out on a duo tour this year and into Spring 2022 so keep an eye on our website for updates and news. www.christinaaldenandalexpatterson.com

We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us over the last year or so, by sending messages, buying our albums and watching our online gigs. Sending lots of love and looking forward to seeing you all soon! x
